Introduction

The LKS Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) aspires to be a global leader in teaching and learning, research and discovery, clinical service, and knowledge exchange. It is ranked 19th in the subject of Clinical & Health in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and 37th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject in 2024 in Medicine.

In line with our objective to deliver superlative clinical service and enable the associated teaching and research activities, HKUMed is embarking on a major recruitment drive to substantively increase our clinical professoriate manpower to help serve the clinical service needs of our various existing and prospective teaching hospitals and service centres. On top of locally trained medical practitioners, we are also looking for non-locally trained doctors who are not yet fully registered in Hong Kong in all medical disciplines round the year.

We welcome candidates with a sustained record of excellence in one or more of the following areas to join us:

  1. Clinical Services
  2. Teaching and Learning
  3. Knowledge Exchange and Services
  4. Research (basic science, translational and/or clinical research)

Clinical Professoriate

Our Clinical Professoriate is classified into two main streams, namely the conventional academic track, and the practice track that emphasizes teaching, clinical services and translational research performance.

For both academic and practice tracks, our Clinical Professoriate is ranked at 3 different levels, namely Assistant, Associate and Full Professor. The approximate mid-point salary range of our clinical professoriate at different ranks are as follows:

Rank Mid-point of the basic salary range
Clinical Assistant Professor ~USD13,000 per month
Clinical Associate Professor ~USD20,000 per month
Clinical Professor ~USD25,000 per month

Due consideration will be given to the seniorities and years of experience of the candidates in formulating their remuneration packages.

All appointees will also be entitled to clinical cash allowance (11% – 26% of basic salary), housing benefit, medical and dental benefits (for both appointees and family members), contract-end gratuity, and clinical on-call allowance (depending on actual on-call duties). Relocation assistance will be provided to mainland and oversea appointees to move to Hong Kong and settle in.

Clinical Practice Environment

We welcome clinicians who are interested in teaching/research and at the same time maintaining a reasonable level of clinical practice in their field of expertise to join us. All appointees will be performing clinical duties at one or more of our four affiliate teaching hospitals in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, China.

Appointees with specialist registration awarded/recognized by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine might be allowed to undertake clinical outside practice at these hospitals and receive additional remuneration on top of their salaries.

Opportunities to obtain Full Registration in Hong Kong without the need to undergo licensing examinations

  3. have a specialty qualification awarded/recognized by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine;

You could apply for full medical registration in Hong Kong without the need to undergo licensing examinations after working with HKUMed for 5 years.
